The best football highlight of the weekend came from Novi High School “hydration manager” Robby Heil.
The senior, who has Down Syndrome, has been the water boy for the Detroit area football team for four years. That’s why with the help of opponent, South Lyon East, the team honored his commitment and heart by letting him score a touchdown from 36 yards out.
The play meant just as much to Heil’s mother, Debbie, who is fighting terminal bone cancer. She had no idea that the teams had planned this for her son.
“I dropped to the ground because I was so emotional when I saw him make that touchdown,” Debbie told WXYZ. “I’ve always been proud of him being the water boy, or as people call him the hydration manager, but this was incredible, he’s Rudy tonight, he’s Rudy.”
