Who better to throw out the Chicago Cubs’ first pitch than 99-year-old Kate Harris, a lifelong Cubs fan, who is more than ready to see them win their first World Series in her lifetime?

The Chicago native now lives in Arizona, so with the Cubs in town for spring training, she was the perfect person to toss out the ceremonial pitch last week before the Cactus League game in Mesa.

“I’m not a thrower; I’m a golfer. But I love the game, I love baseball and I love the Cubs,” she told ABC 15.

Even though she’ll be 100 on April 21, nothing is slowing her down. She still drives herself around town and has been a Meals on Wheels volunteer for 25 years. Up until last year, she was golfing.

How did she think she did on the mound?

“I loved it. I never even thought I’d be able to throw the ball that far straight to someone, and I did it. I’m thrilled.”
