It was a night to remember for Mississippi high school senior Kaylee Foster. First, she was named homecoming queen. Then, she nailed the game-winning kick for her football team in overtime.

Prior to the game, Foster, who attends Ocean Springs High School, posed for picture while wearing her tiara, and then she kicked an extra point to lift her team to a 13-12 win. Not only that, but by drilling two field goal attempts earlier in the contest from 20 and 30 yards out, she scored more than half her team’s points on Friday night.

“I’d like to check the whole country and see if it’s ever happened before,” her head coach, Ryan Ross said, of the homecoming queen winning the game to the Mississippi Press. “It certainly makes for a memorable weekend for the whole team, but especially Kaylee. It’s a big night for her. I’m proud of her and I’m proud of the team.”

Everyone was thrilled for Foster, at least on the Ocean Springs’ side of the ball, and one 9-year-old girl was even heard saying “That’s the kind of girl I want to be.”

When asked if she was more nervous for the homecoming queen announcement or the late-game situation, Foster said, “I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to be homecoming queen, but I was pretty sure I was going to make that kick.”

Foster has been kicking for Ocean Springs since her sophomore year. She got her start as a placekicker by watching instructional videos online in middle school. Next year, however, she’ll play soccer — her first love — at Division-II Mississippi College.

As for having the unique experience of having both male and female teammates while in high school, Foster is nothing but appreciative for all of the support they’ve given her.

“They really have my back,” she told CNN. “They’ve always been very kind and very welcoming.”

The makings of any good team, and one fit especially for a queen.
