Derek Carr’s season ended in relative tragedy with a broken leg, but the Raiders’ quarterback continues to spread cheer.
When he found out 13-year-old Roxy Rodriguez was battling stage 4 brain cancer, he filmed an inspiring message and sent it to her. Rodriguez, who calls Carr her favorite player, is a patient at Valley Children’s Hospital, which is the beneficiary of Carr’s good work through his foundation, DC4Kids.

After their son, Dallas, was born, he had to be rushed to the hospital due to intestinal malrotation, which is a life-threatening condition that cuts off blood supply to the intestinal tract. After two surgeries and over 20 days in the Neonatal intensive Care, Dallas is now a healthy toddler.
“I want people to know how great this place is,” Derek said. “There’s no better place for kids. They genuinely care for your child and that meant a lot. Every child who comes in here is their No. 1 priority.”
