Some might consider being proposed to at a ballgame “cheesy”, but the scenario was far from it for Melissa Dohme, 23, on Monday night.
Three years ago, Dohme was stabbed 32 times by her then boyfriend. According to CBS, the EMT who arrived on the scene said that she was bleeding so much that “you couldn’t tell she was a blond.”
Dohme spent almost a month in the hospital recovering from the attack, and then went on to graduate from St. Petersburgh College-Clearwater. Today, she works as an advocate for victims of domestic violence.
A couple of months after the attack, Dohme started dating a paramedic named Cameron Hill, one of the EMT’s who helped save her life that night.
On Monday, Dohme was invited to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Tampa Bay Ray’s game against the New York Mets. That’s when Hill ran up to hand her the baseball, which had “Will you marry me?” written on it.
A drop to the knee and an unmistakable “yes” left the crowd roaring.
A diamond on the diamond is sometimes the only way to go.
