After three weeks and 2,220 miles, Tour de France winner Chris Froome immediately looked for Channel 4 reporter Tom Calverley upon dismounting the bike on the Champs-Élysées.
It wasn’t for an interview, however. Froome reached into his pocket and pulled out an engagement ring for Calverley, who then promptly got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend.
“I’ve been carrying this around for three weeks with me,” Froome said as he handed the box to Calverley.

“I can’t even describe it,” Calverley’s fiancée told Sky News. “Happiest day ever…For him [Froome] to hand the engagement ring over…So, yeah. Amazing.”
1/2 Great day yesterday. Best friend agreed to permanently put up w me! Huge thank you to @wrightben @TeamSky and, of course, @chrisfroome

2/2 They had enough stress having just won the @LeTour after a gruelling 3 weeks. Didn’t have to do that but they made it happen. Legends. X

That’s a moment worth more than just one glass of champagne.
