Ismail Zulfic is six years old and was born without arms, but that doesn’t keep him from swimming better than many adults.

He can swim the length of an Olympic size pool, pull himself out of the water, and adjust his goggles with his feet.

Zulfic trains with Spid, the swim only club in Bosnia that offers lessons and training to disabled children.

About 10% of the population in Bosnia is disabled but access to schools, sports programs, and other opportunities in the country are very limited.

“In life, you cannot control things, not even with swimming,” his father, Ismet, said. “This is the hand he was dealt, but we hope our son will one day defend the colors of his country.”

Spending three days a week in the water, we could very well see Zulfic in the Paralympic Games down the road.
