Earlier this summer, we told you about the San Diego Splash, the ultra-competitive YMCA basketball team comprised of women 80-and-older.
They’ve been making history each time they step on the court, but now they’ve really added to their legacy. That’s because they secured their first ever endorsement deal with Miracle Whip.
After espnW released a short film on this team, the oldest to play in the San Diego Senior Women’s Basketball Association, they rose to fame. The video amassed more than 12 million hits and the ladies, who play 3-on-3 half court games at the Mission Valley YMCA, stole the hearts of people across the globe.
I mean, who doesn’t want to cheer on a 92-year-old who drops dimes and drains jumpers?
“I think it’s awesome,” Nina Duncan said when asked about the newfound fame. “I never thought this could happen and it’s beyond my expectations. I just hope it inspires other older people to get out and do something. Anything!””
With the endorsement, which spans the ’17-’18 season, Miracle Whip provided the team with warmup gear, spruced up equipment and most importantly, the brand donated to their scholarship program, which gives girls in San Diego County the opportunity to attend summer basketball camps.
“Miracle Whip is a brand that recognizes that some of the best things have been around for the longest time,” said Matt Carpenter, Director of Marketing for Miracle Whip. “This spring, we brought back our original gold standard recipe. Then, when we learned about the Splash, we knew that this was our opportunity to celebrate a group of women who are challenging the expectations of just how good 80 years can look. This is a team filled with spirit, originality, and of course, excellent hook shots.”

What’s next? A shoe deal? Hint, hint.
