In last year’s New York City Marathon, Brent Pease and his brother, Kyle, had every reason not to cross the finish line.
Kyle has cerebral palsy, and Brent often pushes his wheelchair in endurance events. Unfortunately, one of the wheels broke at mile 8 in the 2015 race. Brent tried to carry Kyle, but that wasn’t going to work, so he looped a rope around his shoulder to hold up the broken side of the racing chair.
Thanks to some fellow races, who gave up their marathon times to help the brothers, Brent and Kyle were able to overcome their bad luck and cross the finish line together.
The 2016 New York City Marathon offered an entirely different experience for the Pease’s.
The brothers took first place in the “duo” division, finishing in a blazing 3:27:16, which was an hour faster than any of the other teams in their division.
