The South Carolina Gamecocks had their spring scrimmage on Saturday, but all anyone could talk about was the alumni flag football game associated with it.
That’s because 94-yearold Lou Sossamon, the school’s very first football All-American, scored a touchdown on the second play of the game. With a sturdy group of blockers, he ran one in from five yards out and spiked the ball.
Chants of “Lou, Lou, Lou!” echoed in the stadium.
“I enjoyed being out there today. It was a lot of fun and brought back memories,” he told The State.

As a lineman and center, Sossamon scored just one touchdown in his playing days. After his college career, he went on to play pro football for the New York Yankees.
Over 100 former Gamecocks participated in the game, which was a first at the school.
To cap off the contest, former lineman Randy Wheeler, who was paralyzed in a car accident, scored the winning touchdown for his squad. Here are more highlights of the light-hearted (and big-hearted) game:
