As a walk-on, scout-team running back for the University of Alabama, Lawrence Erekosima hasn’t necessarily been in the spotlight. But on Saturday, his family was.
Erekosima was being recognized for his contributions to the team on Senior Day when his mother, who has been serving in the Army for 12 years, returned from her most recent deployment in Kuwait to surprise her son.

“A lot of (the walk-ons), they play their game on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday helping the rest of the players get ready for the game,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban told Tuscaloosa News. “Lawrence is one of those guys who’s done a phenomenal job.
“But for his mother to be able to come today almost made me cry.”
What a way to end a college career.
