Did you know that New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia will trade in his pinstripes to play under the bright lights of Yankee Stadium this season? Yes, you read that right. He’s not being traded, but come June 28, he’ll be wearing a different uniform for good reason: to enrich the lives of inner city youth.
The 37-year-old and his wife, Amber, will be hosting a celebrity softball game to benefit their PitCCh In Foundation and the New York Yankees Foundation.
The PitCCH In Foundation hosts multiple initiatives throughout the year in the New York Tri-State area and Sabathia’s hometown of Vallejo, Calif., to empower children through education and sports. So, what exactly do they do? They host baseball clinics, renovate baseball fields and even offer a backpack program, which alleviates the financial burden of getting school supplies and helps kids start the year on the right note.
“My wife Amber and I have wanted to organize a softball game fundraiser for a while,” said CC. “This was finally the right time, so we can’t be more excited that we get to partner with the New York Yankees Foundation and host it at Yankee Stadium. This Celebrity Softball Game is going to bring out some amazing athletes and celebrities for a great cause.”
Among those athletes and celebrities? Victor Cruz, Tiki Barber, Jorge Posada and Terrell Owens to name a few.
The New York Yankees Foundation, which is committed to supporting and developing initiatives that provide area youth with access to positive educational, recreational and social outlets, will also benefit.
“Since we started the PitCCh In Foundation, CC and I have been overwhelmed by how many people have wanted to get involved with the foundation,” said Amber Sabathia. “We are especially appreciative that Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal and the Yankees organization wanted to collaborate on this event. Our goals are to positively impact the community and to help support as many deserving youth as possible. The funds raised at this event will help us do that.”
Fans will be able to get in on the action by purchasing tickets ranging from general admission to VIP. Tickets in general seating areas will range in price from $20 to $100 and go on sale on May 18 at 10:00 a.m. ET at Yankee Stadium Advance Ticket Windows, and online at www.yankees.com/ccsoftball and www.ticketmaster.com.
