Tim Tebow is in the headlines this week because it looks like the New York Mets will assign the former Heisman Trophy winner to their Double-A affiliate team, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. With the move, he’s another step closer to realizing his MLB dream.

However, Tebow, as usual, is also capturing attention for the moves he’s making off the field of play.

The 30-year-old stepped up big on World Down Syndrome Day (March 21) when he surprised a huge Florida Gators fan named Michael by showing up at his doorstep.

A few minutes into the visit, Michael broke down into tears, and hugged and kissed his mother. Then, he escorted Tebow into his living room, where the two had a blast talking about wrestling and college football.

Tebow asked Michael, “do we like Florida State?”

Michael shot his tongue out in disgust and proclaimed, “No! No! No!”

Here’s a clip Tebow posted on social media from his surprise visit:

The pair initially met through Tebow’s Night to Shine event, which is a lively prom held every Valentine’s Day for those with special needs.

In 2018, Night to Shine was held in 540 churches globally, and more than 90,000 guests were given the VIP treatment with the help of 175,000 volunteers.

Each year, Tebow personally visits a number of proms in various locations (thanks to a chartered plane). Not only does he pose for photos and dance with guests, but he makes sure that everyone feels like they are the king or queen of the prom.

“It’s so much more than life, because maybe for the first time, they realize that they’re worth it,” Tebow said. “They realize that they’re special. They realize that they’re loved. There’s not much more important than that.”

Who can heckle an athlete with that kind of heart?
