U.S. gymnast Morgan Hurd was thrilled to capture the all-around title in Montreal at the world gymnastics championships over the weekend, but she was absolutely over-the-top excited after a congratulatory tweet by British author J.K Rowling.

Just 16 years old and wearing braces and thick glasses, Hurd took second in the balance beam and came back from two tenths of a point down heading into the final rotation, the floor exercise, to become the youngest world all-around champion since Aliya Mustafina in 2010.

Placing the gold medal around her neck was none other than one of her idols, Nadia Comaneci.

“In third grade I was actually [Comaneci] for a school project,” Hurd said after the win. “I went and dressed as her.”

Following the event, J.K. Rowling tweeted a nice “Congratulations.”

In total shock by Rowling’s acknowledgement, Harry Potter-loving Hurd lost it, as we can see here in this video posted by her teammate, Jade Carey.

Hurd responded with a gracious tweet of her own.

To which, Rowling replied,

Does it get much better than that if you’re 16 years old? I don’t think so.

So, who is Morgan Hurd? She was adopted from Wuzhou, China and lives in Delaware with her mother, Sherri. She enrolled in gymnastics and three years old and hasn’t looked back since. According to USA Gymnastics, her favorite event is the bars and the reason why she loves the sport so much is because it’s challenging.

No one expected her to carry the U.S. to a seventh-straight Olympic or world all-around title, but in doing so, she joins the ranks of Gabby Douglas and Simone Biles.

“I was just so honored to be even picked for the worlds team,” she said.

And I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of this “real life hero in glasses.”
