Ahead of the L.A. Lakers v. Sacramento Kings preseason game at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, both teams announced they will be donating all of the proceeds from the game to help those affected by the tragic shooting that took place on Oct. 1 at the Route 91 Harvest festival killing 59 people and injuring more than 500.
With the help of the MGM Resorts Foundation, every penny will go directly to victims, their families and first repsonders.
“To say we are united in grief does not fully convey the sadness we feel as we offer our deepest sympathies and support to those impacted,” said Sacramento Kings Owner and Chairman Vivek Ranadivé in the press release. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and everyone enduring this heartbreaking tragedy. Together we will remain Vegas strong.”
“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this evil and senseless crime,” said Lakers governor and controlling owner Jeanie Buss. “While no one can erase the horrific actions of last Sunday, we are committed to doing everything we can to help the people of Las Vegas who were affected by this tragedy.”
Though Las Vegas doesn’t have an NBA team, the league considers the city part of its family. Las Vegas plays host to the official NBA Summer League. In 2017, 24 teams participated in 67 games held in two different Las Vegas area venues.
The MGM Resorts Foundation created a special fund to help victims of the shooting, their families and organizations that support first responders. Go here if you’d like to make a donation.
