The Texas Rangers routinely put on quite a show on the diamond, but they also make an impact far beyond Globe Life Park in Arlington.
The team announced Sunday before their game against the Los Angeles Angels that they will be donating the proceeds from their Texas 2 Split Raffle to the area of East Texas that was leveled by a tornado on Saturday, which killed five people. The money will go toward relief and recovery efforts.
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the Texas Rangers organization are with the families who are mourning the loss of loved ones and with everyone who was affected by these massive storms,” Texas Rangers Foundation Chairman Neil Leibman said in a release.
Every home game, the Rangers Foundation holds the Texas 2 Split Raffle, presented by Ephesus. Fans can enter for a chance to win half the proceeds during that game while the rest is funneled to the Rangers Foundation, which donates to various local charities.
According to the Texas 2 Split twitter account, the total jackpot from Sunday’s game was $32,292, meaning $16,146 will go to those who were affected by the storm and toward cleanup.
