What a day it was in Boston. Thousands of runners pounded the 26.2-mile course from Hopkinton to Boylston St. on Patriots’ Day, and there was no shortage of inspiration.
Here are some highlights:
The Finish Line for Marathon Legend Meb Keflezighi
Meb Keflezighi finished in a speedy 2 hours, 17 minutes and 1 second, and the first thing on his mind was honoring Martin Richard, the 8-year-old who was killed in the 2013 bombings. Keflezighi, who has an 8-year-old daughter, ran over to Martin’s family to kiss them in his final Boston Marathon.

Katherine Switzer Does It Again
In 1967, the race director of the Boston Marathon grabbed Katherine Switzer and tried to physically take her off the course. At the time, women weren’t allowed to run the race because they were considered too “fragile.” Thanks to her college coach and her boyfriend swatting away the race director, Switzer became the first woman to ever finish the race. Now 70 years old, Switzer took to the course again and completed it in 4 hours, 44 minutes. She also led more than 100 women through the course.
