On Dec. 2, 2016, Iraan defeated Munday in the Texas Class 2A DII State Quarterfinal in Colorado City, Texas. Following the football game, however, a semi tractor-trailer crashed into the Iraan cheer bus, which was carrying six cheerleaders and two sponsors.
Elizabeth Pope, the junior high cheer sponsor, was killed in the crash while seven others were injured.
Over 700 cheerleaders from across the state of Texas filled Shotwell Stadium in Abilene to support Iraan in the state semifinals.
