February may be a short month, but it certainly wasn’t void of some great stories.
Our top stories for the month include features on Krystal Cantu, a CrossFit athlete who excelled in the sport after losing her arm in a car accident, as well as a group of Special Olympic snowboarders who got to pair up with pro riders and go after X Games gold. P2P’s own Kim Constantinesco was also featured in Sports Illustrated in her attempt to take on the country’s premier big mountain ski and snowboard challenge.
Our top 5:
5. CrossFit Athlete Krystal Cantu Lifts More With One Arm Than She Did With Two
Krystal had the drive for CrossFit training and was dedicated to the gym. However, on Friday, August 2nd, 2013, she and her boyfriend, Daniel Cuate, were in a serious auto accident.
4. Special Olympics Athletes Got Chance At X Games Medals Through Unified Snowboarding
The 2015 Winter X Games in Aspen was full of thrilling events.
However, perhaps none provided as much joy as the Special Olympics Unified Snowboarding competition.
We were on hand to capture it all, as pro riders such as Hannah Teter and Jamie Anderson dished out fast runs and high-fives to some amazing athletes, who flew in from all over the country for this event.
3. P2P Founder Kim Constantinesco Featured In Sports Illustrated
After over one year of featuring inspiring athletes on Purpose2Play, I’ve been inspired enough to take on my own personal challenge. I will be participating in the 2015 Subaru Freeride Series, which is the country’s premier big mountain event for skiers and snowboarders.
This comes four years after my own snowboarding accident, which led to neck surgery and a cadaver bone taking the place of one of my discs.
2. For Boston Marathon Survivor, Rebekah Dimartino, Finish Line Is Just The Start
“I still basically see images from that day such as bones, pools of blood, nails, and all of the things from the bomb,” Rebekah said. “People’s body parts were thrown all over the place. I watched one woman die right next to me. It was a very horrific scene. I was there and I witnessed it, so it was almost like being part of my own personal horror film.” – Rebekah DiMartino
