Unfortunately, a number of sexual assault cases involving student-athletes have been reported over the last few months.

That’s why it’s nice to see one student-athlete step up to stop one such incident. University of Florida linebacker Cristian Garcia intervened when he saw a man attempting to rape an unconscious woman outside of the bar in which he works security.

“The girl was basically unconscious, so I knew there was no way she could be giving consent,” Garcia said.

According to Garcia the man’s friends were watching the assault take place, and did nothing to help.

Garcia said he walked up to the man and grabbed his shoulders and told him he needed to stop. That’s when Garcia said the clearly intoxicated man got violent and threw a few punches.

“I hold strong moral values and I don’t think anyone should be taken advantage of in that kind of way,” Garcia said. (First Coast News)

The man tried to fight Garcia upon being pulled off the woman, but he slipped and hit his face on a wall.

Garcia walked on to the football team last year after working in their video department.
