Former Baltimore Ravens tight end Todd Heap lost his 3-year-old daughter, Holly, on April 14 in an unimaginable tragedy. Heap, a 12-year NFL veteran, was moving a truck in his driveway, and without knowing his daughter was in the vicinity, struck her with the vehicle.

Wednesday would have been her fourth birthday, so to honor Holly, Heap and his family are asking the public for help.

They launched HugsFromHolly.com, and started #HugsFromHollyDay, encouraging people to spread hugs, love, joy, and random acts of kindness throughout the day.

This from their site:

Here’s how YOU can get involved on Wednesday, May 3:

  1. Wear PINK in Holly’s honor
  2. Make a plan to share hugs and spread love & joy through random acts of heartfelt kindness for those in your community.  Smile more.  Compliment somebody.  Write a kind note.  Share treats (or chicken nuggets).  Do a free lemonade stand.  Leave a bigger tip than usual.  Pay for the person behind you in the drive-thru.  Donate a book in Holly’s honor.  Turn up the music and dance… the list is endless.  Be creative!
  3. Capture your family spreading joy and post your pictures using the hashtag #hugsfromhollyday

They also provide a link to make a donation to the Baltimore Community Foundation in Holly’s memory.

The NFL is backing the Heap’s in full. For example, take a look at Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott.

So, regardless of what team you root for on Sundays, take some time out today and honor Holly and the Heap’s. Give a hug and/or go out of your way to make someone’s day a little brighter.
