The 2018 Winter Olympics may be over, but the competition in PyeongChang is far from finished. That’s because on March 8, the 2018 Paralympic Games kick off, and NBC is bringing the heat when it comes to coverage.
In fact, the network is going to provide 94 hours of Paralympic action on television, which nearly doubles the coverage that was provided during the of 2014 Paralympic Games in Sochi. Additionally, there will be 156 hours of streaming coverage on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app for all of your devices.
Keep an eye out for the six Paralympic sports NBC will air — alpine skiing, snowboarding, sled hockey, wheelchair curling, cross-country skiing, and biathlon– over a 10-day period.
“There is arguably no event in the world more inspiring than the Paralympics, and it’s our privilege to tell the captivating stories of these world-class athletes,” Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics, said in a press release.
This year’s Paralympic Games will also be making history because for the first time ever, NBC Olympics’ coverage will have a presenting sponsor. The lucky company? Toyota. The auto manufacture’s mission of creating “a barrier-free society, which reinforces the company’s values of humility, hard work, overcoming challenges, and never giving up” pairs nicely with all the Paralympic Games stand for.
“As an elite athlete and someone who was instrumental in getting Para snowboarding into the Paralympic Games, I am thrilled to see the kind of support and exposure for the world to see what is possible when you chase your dreams and you remove the barriers to succeed,” said Paralympic snowboarder and Team Toyota athlete Amy Purdy. “Thank you to great partners Toyota and NBC for shining a light like never before on the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games. This is truly momentous and incredibly meaningful for the future of the movement.”
Almost 700 para-athletes will compete in 80 events during this year’s competition.
