Last February, retired professional soccer player and former U.S. Women’s National Team star Lauren Holiday learned she was expecting her first child with husband and New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday.

As the couple prepared to welcome their baby home, it was a joyous time, but it was also filled with fear and anxiety. That’s because when Lauren was five months along, they found out she had a brain tumor and would need to be operated on after the baby was born.

Jrue sacrificed his NBA career in the name of love and partnership and stayed home with Lauren throughout that difficult time.

“It was time that I would have a choice — go to training camp, or try to be there with her the whole time,” he told the NBA in their new PSA, Lean In Together. “Nothing comes before my daughter and my wife. I knew that the best thing for me to do was to be with my family; help my wife through this hard time as best as possible.”

The couple had a healthy baby girl, and Lauren underwent successful surgery, which allowed Jrue to return to his team in mid-November.

That’s the true definition of teamwork.
