Charlotte Hornets big man Frank Kaminsky is more accustomed to carrying a basketball rather than a baby, but when his high-rise was evacuated on Thursday, the 25-year-old 7-footer stepped in to ensure a mother and her child made it down the long stairwell safely.

Residents were asked to vacate the building in Charlotte amid the hundreds of bomb threats that were sent to schools, businesses and hospital nationwide.

“I had to walk down 49 stories because they shut off the elevators,” Kaminsky told Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer after Friday’s shootaround. “Instead of grabbing my keys and my wallet, I grabbed a box of Cheez-Its for the long journey down.”

Not long after exiting his home and forgetting his keys, Kaminsky saw his neighbor, Liz Prakash, who looked like she needed an assist.

“About three stories down, there was a lady with a baby and a dog and a couple of other things she had to carry,” he said. “So I just helped her carry the baby.”

The fourth-year power forward out of Wisconsin, who is averaging 6.2 points per game in 18 games this season, told the Observer that he wasn’t some kind of cape-wearing hero, but rather a good Samaritan just trying to help out a neighbor.

Who can’t root for a guy like that?

For as fit as Kaminsky is, he still waited until the elevators were working again before returning home, and once the building was cleared.

“I’m not walking back up 49 floors,” Kaminsky said. “That’s just not a thing that’s going to happen.”
