ECU (East Carolina University) football coach Scottie Montgomery just dished out the best Mother’s Day present ever. And, it wasn’t even for his own mom.

Montgomery surprised Tia Chapman, the mother of ECU walk-on defensive end Kiante Anderson, with a full scholarship in front of her co-workers.

Chapman was at work at an elementary school when the head coach walked in with cameras and an envelope.

“You have such a fantastic son,” he told her. “He has done everything he’s supposed to do, and I personally wanted to come over here and tell you how great he was, but it’s Mother’s Day…so I just wanted to come over here and give you a nice Mother’s Day gift.”

That’s when he handed her the envelope and the tears flowed.

One of the best parts about the surprise is that Anderson had no idea about his scholarship until his mom called him with the good news.

Here’s how it all went down:

Proof that hard work and dedication beat any gift basket Anderson could have ever put together.
