As the head coach of BC Žalgiris, a professional basketball team in Lithuania, Šaras Jasikevičius educates his players every day.

However, during a press conference, he went beyond his team and dished a good life lesson to a young journalist.

The reporter asked about Augusto Lima, the team’s center, who took a leave of absence during the semi-finals in order to attend the birth of his child.

“Is it normal for a player to leave the team during the semi-finals?” the journalist asked.

Jasikevičius had a beautiful response:

“Do you have kids? When you have kids, youngster, you’ll understand because that’s the height of human experience… When you see your first child, you will understand what the most important thing in life is. Come and have a chat with me then because nothing can be more majestic in the world than the birth of a child. Believe me. Not titles, not anything else.”

Here’s the entire interaction:

How’s that for perspective?
