When Emirati weightlifter Amna Al Haddad told Nike she had only found one hijab sufficient enough for competition and she had to hand wash it each night, the apparel giant got to work. They created a lightweight breathable headscarf in dark colors suitable for Muslim athletes.
The “Nike Pro Hijab” has been in development for more than a year, and it will be released in the Spring of 2018.
“We worked with Amna and a variety of other athletes to see what they needed and wanted in a performance hijab,” Global Nike Spokeswoman Megan Saalfeld told Al Arabiya English. What we heard was that women were looking for a lightweight and breathable solution that would stay in place without concern of shifting.”
Actually, Nike has been considering the specially-designed hijab long before the design process began.
Here’s a look at the headpiece.
