San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin fell to the ground in tears after scoring a touchdown against the New York Giants in his team’s first win of the season. That’s because just hours earlier, he and his wife, Morgan, lost their son due to complications during pregnancy.
Goodwin revealed the tragedy in an Instagram post following the game.
“(We) had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4 a.m.,” he wrote. “Although we are hurt, I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan.
“The pain (physically, mentally, & emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable. Please Pray for the Goodwin family.”
Goodwin scored an 83-yard touchdown midway through the second quarter to give the 49ers a 9-6 lead.

He quickly returned to his family after the game.
This isn’t the first time we’ve talked about Goodwin’s heart. In August, we told you about the heartwarming pep talk he gave to a child with a brain tumor.
The 5-year NFL veteran who also competed in the long jump at the 2012 Olympic Games, saw that 11-year-old Austin DeMello wasn’t feeling well on the sidelines during a 49ers practice. So, Goodwin knelt down next to the boy and offered some words of encouragement.
“I’ve got a sister who never walked a day in her life…She’s still smiling, still enjoying life. You can too. It’s going to be alright,” he said.

According to Democrat and Chronicle, Goodwin’s sister, Deja, was born three month premature and doctors told their parents she likely wouldn’t live past six months. She beat those odds only to be diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 2 years old. Now 22, her arms and legs are so stiff that she can’t walk or do much for herself.
“When I look at her, and what she’s dealt with her whole life, my situation is very small,” Goodwin acknowledged in 2014.
In another Instagram post, Morgan Goodwin-Snow said,
“This whole week has taken an emotional toll on my husband and I. Struggling to keep our healthy baby safe in my womb… However, God had other plans for us.
“This was truly and an amazing experience and it was also a tragic experience. But that’s okay because we won’t stop fighting and we won’t give up on what God has in store for us.”
Our sincere condolences to the Goodwin family.
