Curt Schilling Rescues His Daughter From Cyber Bullies
Former pitcher, Curt Schilling was known for being one of the best big-game pitchers in the history of Major League Baseball. Schilling’s resume consists of a 5-hit shutout in game 5 of the 1993 World Series for the Philadelphia Phillies, who were down 3 games to 1 at the time, a co-MVP (with Randy Johnson) performance for the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2001 World Series, and pitching with a torn tendon sheath in his ankle which was sewn in place just before game 6 of the 2004 ALCS in Yankee Stadium…and you guessed it, he shut the Yankees down en route to the leading the Boston Red Sox to their first championship in 86 years.
As clutch as he was as a pitcher, he saved his best performance for rescuing his daughter, Gabby, from vile cyber bullies. Curt took to Twitter on February 25th to congratulate Gabby on being accepted to Salve Regina University in Rhode Island and following in her father’s footsteps by pitching for the Seahawks softball team.
Congrats to Gabby Schilling who will pitch for the Salve Regina Seahawks next year!!

Now to most, this is a beautiful gesture from a proud papa. However, a few cowardly trolls, who hid behind their computer keyboards, saw this as an opportunity to tweet comments about Gabby so vile that they cannot even be shown, even in part, by the news outlets who reported the story. Both Good Morning, America and Inside Edition provided disclaimers during their respective reports indicating that they could not show the tweets because of how disgusting they were. I stand with those outlets and the Schillings, and will spare you from having to see these incomprehensibly vulgar posts.
It was then that Curt tracked down additional information about the bullies through social media. He cross-referenced their social media accounts, gathered their names, found out where they worked, and exposed a couple of them on his blog.
“The Sports Guru”? Ya he’s a DJ named Adam Nagel (DJ is a bit strong since he’s on the air for 1 hour a week) on Brookdale Student Radio at Brookdale Community College. How do you think that place feels about this stud representing their school? You don’t think this isn’t going to be a nice compilation that will show up every single time this idiot is googled the rest of his life? What happens when a potential woman he’s after googles and reads this?”
After he was done with Nagel, he went to work on another guy, Sean McDonald. Ironically, he’s a part time ticket seller at Yankee Stadium. I’ll let Curt fill you in on the rest.
“The other clown? He’s VP of the Theta Xi fraternity at Montclair State University. I gotta believe if Theta Xi is cool with a VP of one of their chapters acting like this I’d prefer to have no one I know in it. Also, does anyone attending Montclair State University have a student handbook? If so can you pass it along because I am pretty sure there are about 90 violations in this idiots tweets.”
Schilling went on to write that there were many more of these kinds of tweets from several other trolls but he didn’t call them out because there were just too many of them. However, he did gather all of their information as well and has saved screen shots of their tweets, just in case. I hope he also gets around to circulating their information someday.
You can search out Schilling’s blog for his article if you choose. However, seek it out at your own risk. I will not link to it because of the vulgar content of the posted tweets.
The postscript to this is that McDonald was fired by the Yankees and my Alma mater of Brookdale Community College did me proud by acting quickly and suspending Nagel. I am not sure what other repercussions await these two, but I can only hope that the penalties are stiff and these two are shamed to the point where a significant example is made of them.
I always sign off of my weekly radio show with seven words that I feel very strongly about. I shall do the same here since it has rarely been more fitting: Be good to each other out there!!!
